Side-berths are the best places in Indian Railway compartments. They are comfortable, private in some sense and are cool in some way. I was as usual staring at the endless sunlit greenlands inhabited by noone.
The long water pipelines, perhaps were the only signature for human dwellings nearby.
I was a witness to two incidents, which symbolized to me pursuit for knowledge and of survival.
I was busy reading, when a differently abled man( he could not see through his eyes) came along and was selling safety accessories..how ironic? He had nimble fingers and could recognize locks, safety chains of different sizes that he had. He could easily put back all of them passed on as specimen to the passengers. One of them bought and paid him.. and now he surprised me even more by recognizing the currency denominations , though Indian currency is not designed to be inclusive..
A tea seller(Dileep) came along.. i couldnt help myself from peeping at his label tucked onto his shirt. He seemed a south Indian by accent. He saw a newspaper on the seat and he quickly got on to reading as fellow passengers were sipping Chai. He was so engrossed in reading, other tea sellers passed by without him noticing them and that amazed me. Few minutes later, he realised too and out of compulsion to his work, he left.
The long water pipelines still continued as silent testimony to human capacity .
